Why you shouldn't buy Instagram followers?

This guide will explain why you shouldn't buy Instagram followers at all.

People believe there is a direct link between the number of followers you have, and your success on Instagram. However, the reality is a lot more complicated than this, and the real indicators of success on the platform are worked out in an equation similar to the one below:

Follows x Post Engagement x Traffic Generated = Success

While services that offer paid followers help you achieve the first part of the equitation, they almost always affect the other two factors negatively. There are several reasons for this, which will be covered below.

Bots

Usually, large numbers of the accounts that follow you don't belong to people at all. They are accounts that have been set up and are controlled entirely by computers, following instructions from their creators, usually purely to follow accounts that have purchased the followers off them.

These accounts almost never engage with the profiles they follow, and usually have few followers other than similar bot accounts. They also rarely or never post their own photos or video, so they're really easy to spot, which could reduce your brand's image if seen by potential customers.

Mass Following

Although much more likely to attract real followers than people who sell bot followers, mass following is bad for a number of different reasons. Firstly, it is heavily discouraged by Instagram's terms of service, and any accounts found to be performing the action are usually banned, meaning you could lose the hard work you spent putting into your profile for a long time beforehand, and any potential sales you could make from the platform.

Alongside this, there is no form of targeting of which accounts are followed. When you follow thousands of accounts at once, it attracts a completely random assortment of responses, who may not be interested in your profile, meaning they won't engage with your posts, and will likely unfollow again soon enough.

It is also a negative factor when people see a business has followed thousands of others to gain their existing following, especially when it's less than the current number of followers.

Follow Chains/Financially Motivated Followers

Another method the people who you buy Instagram followers off to gain you followers is by creating chains of people who will follow any account in exchange for publicity, or a financial motive (such as payment) for doing so. This is just as damaging as the process of mass followng, even potentially worse. This is because with mass following, at least some percentage of the people who follow you did so because they're interested in what you have to say.

However, when it comes to following chains and people who are paid to follow you, 99% of the time, they won't have any interest in what you offer at all. That means they will likely ignore all of your posts, and are even more likely to unfollow you at a later date, which means that you've just wasted money on nothing.

In conclusion, there are a number of reasons you don't want to buy Instagram followers. It's always better to do one of the following three things:

  • Advertise on the network, although this can be very pricey, it will gain new, engaged followers.
  • Spend the time required engaging with people on the network and building relationships. This is the method that costs the least in terms of resources, but takes a considerable amount of time.
